15 Years in the Making: Crafting the Unthinkable

An Army Major’s plea for lighter jackets inspired the researchers. They veered away from traditional iron-based jackets, leveraging advanced polymer and ceramic materials for their innovative creation. A total of 25 M.Tech and 12 Ph.D. students contributed to this monumental project.
Precision Testing for Supreme Reliability
Dr. Hemant Chauhan, a senior scientist at IIT Delhi, shared insights into the rigorous testing process. “Ballistic bullets were fired using gas guns for comprehensive testing,” he explained. The jackets, having undergone stringent evaluations, have received endorsement from the Bureau of Indian Standards. The IIT-Delhi team is gearing up to present their innovation at a NATO conference in Germany, capturing global attention.
