Indian Women Hockey team clinches victory over Thailand, sealing spot in World Cup

In a thrilling and historic showdown in Salalah, Oman, India’s women’s hockey team emerged as triumphant champions of the inaugural Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier. Displaying a commanding performance, India secured a 7-2 victory over Thailand, sealing their spot in the upcoming World Cup set to grace Muscat in January next year.

Dominant Display by Mariana Kujur and Team

Marred by excitement, the match witnessed India’s Mariana Kujur’s standout prowess, lighting up the scoreboard with two goals in the 2nd and 8th minutes. Jyoti further fueled India’s dominance with goals in the 10th and 27th minutes. The victory parade continued with Monika Dipi Toppo, skipper Navjot Kaur, and Mahima Choudhary’s remarkable goals in the 7th, 23rd, and 29th minutes, respectively. Thailand’s Kunjira Inpa and Sanpoung Kornkanok fought valiantly but could not deter India’s triumph.

A Spectacular Journey to Victory

The journey to victory began with Kujur’s lightning-fast field goal, setting India’s momentum. Thailand responded with a flurry of goals, but India’s Toppo’s brilliance restored equilibrium. Kujur struck again, asserting India’s lead, while Jyoti’s goal just before halftime widened the gap to 4-2.

Second Half Dominance

The second half saw India’s relentless pursuit of excellence as captain Navjot fired a fifth goal with confidence. Jyoti’s prowess shone once more, securing a sixth goal, and Choudhary sealed the triumph with a seventh goal, culminating in a comprehensive 7-2 victory for India.

Earlier Triumphs: India vs. Malaysia

Earlier on the same day, India showcased their prowess by overcoming Malaysia with a thrilling 9-5 victory. Navjot’s hat-trick and Kujur’s and Jyoti’s contributions underscored India’s supremacy. Malaysia’s valiant efforts found the net thrice but paled in comparison to India’s exceptional display.

A Celebration of Excellence

Recognizing their remarkable feat, Hockey India has announced rewards of Rs 2 lakh for each player and Rs 1 lakh for the support staff. As the women’s hockey team shines on the international stage, their triumph stands as a testament to dedication, teamwork, and unparalleled skill.
