

In a remarkable achievement, Paralympian Mark Dharmai has etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in boccia (doubles) at the World Dwarf Games held in Germany from July 28 to August 5, 2023. This incredible feat marks a significant milestone in his sporting career.
A Stellar Performance:
Dharmai, who resides in the vibrant Bandra neighborhood, didn’t stop at just one victory. He showcased his exceptional skills throughout the competition, securing a total of five medals. Alongside his gold in boccia, he earned silver medals in discus throw and badminton (doubles), as well as bronze medals in badminton (singles) and javelin throw.
A Sporting Journey:
Dharmai’s passion for sports ignited at a young age, and his journey began in 2004 when he clinched a bronze medal in the 400-meter race at the Paralympic Games. Over the years, he has achieved numerous noteworthy milestones in his sporting career. Notably, he won a gold medal in the 200-meter race at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and secured a silver medal in the 4×400-meter relay at the 2012 London Paralympics. His talents extend to badminton as well, with gold, bronze, and silver medals in the 2016 Asia Para Badminton Championship in China.
